The closer you are to the altar, the more you will remember to speak with Jesus in daily prayer; the more you will be nourished by the word and the body of the Lord. -Pope Francis
This Ministry is open to all boys and girls attending St. Anthony de Padua Parish, St. Anthony School, all public schools, and home school students in grades 4-12.
Altar servers are scheduled to serve at all weekend Masses and can also volunteer to serve at daily Masses Monday-Saturday. In addition, servers may be asked to serve at funerals and weddings. Training is required prior to serving.
Parents play a super important role in this ministry, since you are the ones that bring your children to the church. We ask that you bring your child to their scheduled Masses 20 minutes before Mass begins so that they can sign in, vest, and light the candles. When kids are late, they are stressed and have to rush, which is a tough way to start Mass.
If a server cannot attend a scheduled Mass, parents should request a sub via MSP (Ministry Scheduler Pro), our scheduling program, or ask another server to fill in.
We understand that last minute things happen that cannot be helped, like illness. When it's too late to notify us of an absence, we will try to find a server from the pews before Mass for anyone who does not show. We do ask that you make a sub request in advance when at all possible.
Please make sure your child is neatly groomed, wearing appropriate shoes (not sneakers or flip-flops), and is reverent, still, and attentive while on the altar. Please also follow all health and safety procedures.
Altar Servers for weekend Masses are scheduled via Ministry Scheduler Pro (MSP) for scheduling periods of 10-14 weeks. MSP is super convenient and allows you to personalize your scheduling preferences including Mass preferences, dates you can't serve, and you can request a substitute with a click.
Serving frequency depends on the number of ministers also signed up to serve at your prefered Masses.
If you would like to serve, you can sign up conveniently online, on paper, or by contacting Andrew Skiff at the email below.
